Our Overseas Partners
As part of The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix has the capacity to reach every Jew in need with a social-service network unparalleled in the world. Our Overseas Needs and Assessment system ensures that a significant amount of money allocated for overseas purposes will be provided for core services, such as rescue, immigration and absorption. Through unique, innovative programs administered by JFNA and its three preeminent overseas partners—American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) and World ORT—the Federation is able to bring life-saving and life-sustaining care to more than 65 countries throughout the world.
JAFI -- Jewish Agency for Israel:
For almost 75 years, the Jewish Agency for Israel has been synonymous with the efforts to rescue Jews at risk and the resettlement of the Jewish people in Israel. As the world's major Jewish partnership organization, JAFI strives to strengthen the connection between Jews everywhere who share a common heritage, identity, and homeland—Israel. Major activities include the rescue of Jews in distress, facilitating aliyah and absorption, Jewish Zionist education and building a global Jewish community. In addition to extensive programs in Israel, JAFI operates in close to 80 countries on five continents through a network of over 450 emissaries, including hundreds of formal and informal educators.
The world Jewish community participates in the Jewish Agency's decision-making process through the Assembly, its supreme governing body, and its Board of Governors, which is responsible for policy-making and overseeing the organization.
JDC -- The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee:
Since 1914, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, Inc. (JDC) has served as the overseas arm of the American Jewish community. Their mission is to serve the needs of Jews throughout the world, particularly where their lives as Jews are threatened or made more difficult. JDC sponsors programs of relief, rescue and renewal and helps Israel address its most urgent social challenges.
Through the UJA Federation Campaign, JFNA provides the greatest funding for JDC's core budget. Other major funding partners include: the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (the Claims Conference), World Jewish Relief (United Kingdom), Canadian Jewry, government agencies, and other international organizations.
